My name is Kelley Osowski, mom to Jake Osowski. Jake has now spent 5 summers working with Southwestern Advantage, and he asked me to tell you a little bit about the experience from my perspective, which I was excited to do.
When Jake called at the end of his freshman year at UMD and said he was looking at a summer internship program, I was very excited. Then he told me that he was going to live out of state with a host family and work 80 hours a week selling educational materials to strangers. I was more than skeptical, and I thought college life was ruining his good judgment. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I did my research and tried to find reasons Jake shouldn’t be a part of this sales program. Now, after 5 summers with Southwestern, I am very glad Jake’s judgment was more rational than mine.
Southwestern Advantage has not only provided Jake a decent income, but so very much more. I have seen him grow and mature into a young man I am very proud of. I have seen him gain life skills and training that will benefit him in his personal and professional life after college. He has become an independent, self-motivated, goal-setting individual, who has also taken on the role as a coach and mentor to several others.
Southwestern Advantage has been around for 160 years because it is an outstanding program… that simple. I have been very impressed with the leadership training that Southwestern provides, and I was also impressed when I was able to visit their headquarters in Nashville. I have attended the parent coffees and awards banquets over the years, and I continue to be impressed by the maturity of these young adults who Jake works alongside.
I continue to be thankful that Jake became part of the Southwestern Advantage team and look forward to the opportunities that are now ahead for him!
